# Flatpack Steps > Turns the how-to notes you leave for someone - a house-sitter, a babysitter, a holiday guest, a roommate, a parent > with a new gadget, your own future self - into a flat-pack style instruction sheet: a lettered parts list and > numbered steps that each do one thing, with a picture tag per step. https://flatpack-steps.skillsafe.ai/ ## What is free (in the browser) - The notes are split into candidate steps (lines, bullets, sentences; short headings ending in ":" are skipped). - Each candidate step is checked against four sentence rules adapted from Simplified Technical English: S1 one action per step, S2 start with the verb (no "you should", "please", "make sure you"), S3 20 words or fewer, S4 no vague words (a bit, some, enough, properly, a while...). A fifth check, "never says", marks a step that leans on something the notes never give: "the usual spot", "like last time", "the code" with no code anywhere. - Every number in the notes is listed, and a picture tag is guessed per step from keywords. - The page's verdict, by ordered rules: ask first (something never said) > rebuild (fewer than three steps, or more than half breaking a rule) > tighten (any step breaking a rule) > ready. - These checks are word lists and counts: estimates, not a judgement. ## What is metered (one run) - `task: "sheet"` - the model gives the verdict (it also checks the order of the steps), writes the parts list and the one-action steps from the notes only, keeps every number exactly, marks a missing fact as `[ask: ...]` with a question for the note-writer, and lists each changed note line with the rule it broke. - The page re-checks the reply: step count, 20-word limit, verb-first openers, part letters that exist, every number from the notes present, no number the notes never gave, questions only under "ask first", changes that quote real note lines, no internal field names. ## Exports A print layout of the sheet, Markdown (sheet + the page's check), plain text (it names who the sheet is for), JSON. On a phone, "Send it" opens the device's share sheet with the plain-text sheet, so it goes straight into a message. Before it goes, the page says if a step still reads [ask: ...] or prints a code or password. ## API https://flatpack-steps.skillsafe.ai/api.html - input fields, the reply contract, a worked example for every verdict. ## Sources Built on the SkillSafe skill @cursor/technical-writing (https://skillsafe.ai/skill/@cursor/technical-writing): a layered technical-writing standard (Diataxis structure, Google developer style sentences, STE instruction rules, Global English syntax). The model is gpt-terra, metered per run.
